“A Soulful Christmas”, co-produced by Anthony Wayne of Norfolk, debuts in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (WAVY) – It’s not the Jackson Five, it’s the Harlem Five, and it’s not Diana Ross and the Supremes but “Tiana Ross and the Extremes” that have sold Off-Broadway shows in review very popular musical “A moving Christmas.

“A Soulful Christmas” debuts on Hampton Roads on the evening of December 16 at the Zeiders American Dream Theater – AKA The Z – in the Virginia Beach Town Center.

Music criticism was created by Anthony Wayne and Kendrell Bowman of Norfolk.

“We’re excited to bring him to Virginia Beach, my hometown of Tidewater 757,” Wayne said in a recent interview from his home in New York City.

Inspired by the iconic TV entertainment show Soul Train – Created and hosted by the late Don Cornelius – “A Soulful Christmas” features veteran Hampton Roads actor Michel lemelle who plays the role of Ron Cornelius.

Wayne, a Maury High School graduate, has appeared in Broadway productions including “Tootsie”, “Pippin” and “Anything Goes”. But it all started at Hampton Roads with Centerstage Children’s Theater, the Governor’s School for the Arts, and The Hooray players.

He returns often to train the next generation of Hampton Roads stars, who are well represented on the Great White Way.

“We have Derrick williams a great performer – he was with me in Centerstage – he does the “Book of Mormon” on Broadway that we have Rashida scott who does a show called “Company on Broadway”, and of course there is the incomparable Adrienne warren – whom I have known for years – who just won a Tony Award for Tina Turner in the musical Tina Turner,“Wayne said.

“A Soulful Christmas” could set the stage for the next generation of Hampton Roads stars.

“Everyone on this stage is shining. There are a lot of people – young people who are going to watch the show and who will be encouraged and inspired like I was – at 757 to know that they can do great things too, ”said Wayne.
