Relatives of a Towson University student who was shot and killed off campus remember a musical artist who had nearly graduated.

Ikemefuna Eguh, from East Orange, New Jersey, started recording music in 2019, posting his work on YouTube and other social media platforms. The 23-year-old artist known as “Jigavelii” and a student at Towson University was shot dead early Tuesday morning outside the off-campus Altus apartment complex at 22 W. Susquehanna Ave., where he lived.

Another Towson student, Chase Luey, said the university sent an alert about the shooting.

“They emailed me. They told me what happened around two in the morning. It was an off-campus incident. They issued a notice to students, be careful because it happened “, said Luey. “I’m just shocked. I can’t believe this happened right outside my building.”

To family and friends, the victim was known as “Justin”. Relatives who traveled from New Jersey and were in Baltimore on Wednesday told the 11 News I-Team that Eguh was a quiet, private person, not someone who drew much attention or crowds. The Towson eldest was working to complete a final course so he could earn a degree in exercise science.

Eguh’s family, friends, classmates and others who live and work in the Towson community said they hope investigators will soon be able to share more information about what happened. led to his death.

“You don’t go out after a certain hour at night. It’s a college town now, anything is possible, but be aware,” said Ella Bonn, who works at Towson.

“I could have been out at two in the morning, walking to my car. It’s just crazy for me,” Luey said.

Relatives of the victim told I-Team they plan to issue a statement once they are able to learn more about his death.
