Not all businesses start with a Craigslist ad, but the origins of the Radha Windham School of Music can be traced back to one.

At the age of 16, Windham found a student on the website who needed private music lessons. When she started teaching them, she realized that teaching music was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

“The reason I fell in love is not just the students’ enthusiasm for learning something new, but something that can be a great art form and outlet,” Windham said. “From 16 to 17 my schedule filled with students, and I didn’t want to stop there, and I wanted to create something bigger.

Windham started playing the piano at age 3 and started learning guitar at age 6 and played drums for 10 years and bass guitar for 15 years.

Windham herself began planning the opening of the Radha School of Music in 2015. After hours of researching how to start a business and sign a lease, she opened the school in an offshore mall. from Osage Drive to Leander in January 2016 at the age of 18. In August 2020, she moved to Cedar Park in 2006 Lakeline. boul., Ste. A.

The school offers private music lessons for piano, guitar, vocals, violin, ukulele and more for ages 3 and up. And while the school mainly teaches young students, there are students over 70 and people of all ages, backgrounds and music levels are welcome.

“We want you to come and get it wrong and have 20 questions you wanted to know for the guitar song you’re working on,” Windham said. “Whatever your goals, we’ll do our best to help you. You will never be bored here.

In the past, the school offered orchestral programs that gave students the chance to learn to perform in groups and occasionally travel to Austin for live concerts. Group programs will return for the 6-9, 9-13 and 14-18 age groups in November.

“We teach kids to play together, whether it’s classical music in an orchestral-like setting, or more generally we do more rock and funk and blues,” Windham said.
