Get to know Junior Megan Furtney


DURHAM– As the Blue Devils prepare to open the 2022 spring season in February, let’s get to know junior Megan Furney. A product of St. Charles, Illinois, Furtney attended St. Charles North High School before coming to Durham. She is a two-time WGCA Scholar All-American and a two-time ACC Honor Roll selection.

GoDuke.com: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

GD: Who is your favorite golfer and why?
FM:
Nelly Korda. His swing is one of my favorites!

GD: What’s the last thing you read?
FM:
A book called “All They Will Call You” for one of my classes this semester

GD: What sport would you play if you weren’t playing golf?
FM:
Basketball or tennis

GD: What was the last show you binge-watched?
FM:
Squid Game on Netflix

GD: What’s your favorite ice cream topping?
FM:
Asparagus

GD: Do you like podcasts or do you listen to music?
FM:
I am in both. For road trips, I listen to podcasts, but I listen to music every day.

GD: Are you more beach or mountain?
FM:
Beach

FM:
Hermione from Harry Potter. She was one of my favorite fictional characters growing up!

Invest in stocks

GD: How different was your life a year ago?
FM:
Extremely different! We were living at the hotel on campus and planning our very first event of the 2020-2021 season since we didn’t have a fall season, but I’m still so grateful for all the fun I had the season last and where I am now!

GD: What is the furthest distance from your home?
FM:
My family went on vacation to the Bahamas!

GD: What is your ideal way to spend a weekend?
FM:
Catching up on my sleep and spending time with my friends.

GD: Who is your favorite Disney character?
FM:
Beautiful. She was always my favorite when I was a kid.

GD: What’s one thing on your list?
FM:
To visit the 7 continents

GD: The best course you took at Duke and why?
FM:
Any class with Professor Grody! He is the best and his business courses are very helpful.

GD: Where is your favorite place to eat in Durham?
FM:
Namu or Burger Bach

GD: Where is your favorite place on campus?
FM:
WU, the student cafeteria!

GD: Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
FM:
My parents are the strongest people I know and they push me to improve every day.
