Man proposes to his girlfriend in Akron half marathon

What could be better than the top of the approach to the finish line after running 13.1 miles in the Akron Half Marathon?

Kendra Molyet found out on Saturday when her boyfriend, Matt Smartnick, knelt down and proposed.

The Brooklyn, Ohio couple have been dating for nearly four years and Smartnick said the time is right. They met while he was finishing his law studies and she was completing his undergraduate degree, both at Akron University.

“I know what I want to do,” Smartnick said Friday night before asking the question. “I waited for the right moment.”

She said yes’

As his new finances had hoped, Molyet said yes as the marathon race announcer explained the news to hundreds of spectators.

As Molyet neared the finish line, three of Smartnick’s friends held signs that read, “Kendra, will you marry me?”

Molyet’s parents and Smartnick’s mother were also there to support Smartnick, a lawyer at a Cleveland law firm.

“I was thinking of something special,” said Smartnick. “I wanted to do something memorable.”
