Manistee County Records 12 New COVID-19 Cases, 1 Death Since Friday


MANISTEE COUNTY – Manistee County has recorded 1,327 cases of COVID-19 and 26 deaths, according to the most recent data in Monday’s update provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

This is an increase of 12 cases and one new death since Friday’s update.

There have been 218 new cases and four deaths in the county since July 16. There have been 233 cases and seven deaths since June 4.

Here are some quick facts from the most recent MDHHS report:

• There were 995,910 cases and 20,700 deaths statewide during the pandemic.

• This is an increase of 7,185 cases and 35 deaths since Friday; an average of 2,395 cases per day. Of the reported deaths, nine were identified during a review of vital records.

• Grand Traverse County has reported 6,495 cases and 93 deaths; this is an increase of 59 new cases and no new deaths.

• County of Wexford has reported 2,720 cases and 46 deaths; this is an increase of 20 new cases and no new deaths.

• Benzie County recorded 1,184 cases and 37 deaths; this is an increase of 10 new cases and no new deaths.

• Lake County recorded 723 cases and 16 deaths; this is an increase of 10 new cases and no new deaths.

• Mason County recorded 2,434 cases and 41 deaths; this is an increase of 39 new cases and no new deaths.

Michigan has recorded a total of 906,096 recovered COVID-19 cases. This information is updated once a week; it was last updated on September 17th.

Information about COVID-19 outbreaks associated with educational institutions is reported weekly by local health departments to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. An outbreak is defined as an educational institution that has been found to have two or more cases that “may have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households are included”.

The local outbreaks reported are as follows:

• Mason County Central in Scottville reports six positive cases of COVID-19 among students and staff. This information was first added to the MDHHS website on August 30.

Manistee County is considered part of Region 7 for state tracking. Region 7 includes Manistee and 17 other counties.

The region had 62 cases of confirmed or suspected adult COVID-19 hospitalized patients, four on ventilators and 26 confirmed or suspected COVID-19 adults are in intensive care as of Monday’s data.

Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital had six COVID-19 patients on Monday, according to data from DHD # 10.

Manistee County has 59.4% of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 according to the state’s most recent information on Friday. This is 13,069 out of 21,990 eligible residents, according to the 2019 census estimates for those aged 12 and over. In Benzie County, about 64.3% of residents are fully immunized.

The District No. 10 Health Department allows parents and guardians to schedule appointments to immunize their children aged 12 and older against COVID-19 at

DHD # 10 offers offsite vaccination clinics. Participants do not need an appointment. All clinics will have Pfizer for those 12 and over and most will have Moderna and Johnson & Johnson for those 18 and over.

The Department of Health is also planning third doses of Moderna and Pfizer for people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.

The United States has the highest accounts in the world. India has the second highest number of cases and Brazil has the second highest number of deaths.

According to the CDC, there are approximately 42 million cases in the United States and 672,738 deaths.

WHO has more than 228.4 million confirmed cases and 4.69 million deaths worldwide. Around 5.63 billion doses of the vaccine have been administered worldwide.
