Maui Prep students to stage ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ | News, Sports, Jobs



Maui Preparatory Academy students will perform the hit Broadway musical “Bye Bye Birdie” on December 9, 10 and 11 at the Bozich Center for Athletics and Performing Arts.

NAPILI – The cast and crew of the next Maui Preparatory Academy “Goodbye Birdie” the production is delighted to see the public “Put on a happy face” when they perform the hit Broadway musical on December 9, 10 and 11 at the Bozich Center for Athletics and Performing Arts.

Maui Prep Arts Department teacher Kristi Scott leads the cast of more than 40 Maui Prep middle and high school students in the production, along with choreographer Jackie Dowsett and music director Vania Jerome.

The musical and subsequent film adaptation are rumored to be based on Elvis Presley’s induction into the military in 1957, as reported by the Saturday Evening Post.

Featuring Maui Prep students Gavin Ames (Class of 2024), Tessa Chin (’23), Landon Long (’25), and Sam Teschler (’25), audiences will be transported to 1950s Ohio as Conrad Birdie preparing to give a farewell concert on the Ed Sullivan Show before joining the army.

The fair is open to the community! Sessions are scheduled for Friday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday 10 December at 6.30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 11 at 2 p.m.

Tickets start at $10 and are available through Eventbrite at mauiprep.org/arts.

Pre-show meals and concessions are available for purchase starting one hour before showtime.

The duration of the show is approximately 90 minutes with intermission.
