MMT set to stage Blackburn’s biggest live music showcase

A BLACKBURN music school is organizing its biggest ever showcase this summer with no less than 12 bands on the program.

Sudell Cross-based McNally Music Tuition has revealed ambitious plans for a spectacular music event at King George’s Hall.

Over 100 tickets for the summer showcase – Friday, June 10 – were purchased within 24 hours of the initial announcement on Facebook.

MMT owner Phil McNally said: “This will be the most ambitious event we have ever staged, but we are ready for it. We see it as both a showcase and a gig, as some of the bands in the lineup are way beyond the stage where they just need a chance to play live. There are very good bands that will surprise people.

The show will be headlined by Free From The Wilde who are currently working on their debut EP You From The Start which will be released as a physical copy on the MMT label at the event. The group has also been confirmed for the Darwen Live main stage on Saturday, June 4 at 6 p.m.

All participating groups are made up of MMT students aged 10 to adults and they rehearsed in special weekend sessions supervised by MMT tutors.

“The time has come for us once a year to host a major event,” Phil said. “We want to put on an event that we know anyone who wants to come can get a ticket to.”

Over Christmas, MMT had to hold two showcases at Blackburn Electric Church, both of which sold out.

“Playing at the Windsor Suite will be a great experience for everyone and I hope the event will attract music fans as well as people connected to the bands,” said Phil. “There’s some serious talent out there and it promises to be quite the night.”

Also on the program are Drop Dead Red, consisting of the core of The Red Right Hands that wowed crowds at Christmas window displays; The Preachers who are currently working on an original single and The Lavelles who are working on original material again.

Other groups include Rewired, The Burners, Fireflies, State of Mind, The Fallen Petals, Ruthless, Untamed and Limit to Destroy.

Tickets are available from or by calling 01254 491897 or Profits from the evening will be used to finance recording sessions and the development of the group.
