At the 10th NJ Yasaswy Memorial Lecture on “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in the Modern Context” recently organized by the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Ranjan said universities should play the role of centers of excellence by unleashing the talent of young people and equipping them with the right skills and competences.

Speaking of employment, Ranjan said there was no shortage of jobs in the economy, however, what was missing were the employability skills that higher education institutions need to instill. youth.

Ranjan stressed the importance of influencing students to evolve as thinkers rather than coming off as mere utilitarian resources. He stressed the need to accelerate the entrepreneurial movement rather than depending on the state or the private sector in anticipation of employment.

ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Chancellor, Dr C Rangarajan recalled the contributions of NJ Yasaswy to the higher education sector and the pan-Indian impact he has had in the field of education.

Dr Rangarajan highlighted three elements which he believes are essential for any higher education institution viz. the content, the pedagogy and the evaluation system.

He insisted on designing programs that complement the demands of the contemporary working world and spoke of the critical role of faculty in delivering content in an engaging way to students.

Dr Rangarajan expressed concern by highlighting conventional rote memorization techniques that still prevail as assessment methods in various educational institutions. He urged institutions to design assessments that empower students and turn them into thinking citizens of the country.

ICFAI University Vice Chancellor Dr J Mahender Reddy, ICFAI Society, President Sobha Rani Yasaswy, Registrar Professor Vijaya Lakshmi, students and faculty attended the conference.
