Obaseki converts Ambrose Alli Varsity, other public institutions to multi-campus

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has converted Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and two other public higher education institutions into multi-campus institutions

He said the main campus of Ambrose Ali University would be in Ekpoma while the two new campuses would be located in the federal constituencies of Oredo and Owan.

Obaseki announced the conversion over the weekend at the public education policy meeting convened by the state Department of Education.

“For Oredo, the campus would focus on technology and engineering while the Owan campus would focus on agriculture and natural resources.”

The governor also announced the transformation of the State College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi and its two other campuses at Agenebode and Uromi into a degree-granting institution.

He said, “We have the main campus in Iguoriakhi, while the other two campuses are located in Uromi and the third in Agenebode.

The governor explained that the Iguoriakhi campus is almost complete while that of Agenebode and Uromi will be captured in the next budget.

According to him, the state College of Education is also being converted into three campuses with the main campus being located in Abudu while others will be located in Igueben and Afuze.

“The Abudu campus will focus on basic and early childhood education, the main Igueben campus will focus on secondary education while Afuze will focus on special, physical and health education,” did he declare.

He said the new policy is designed to ensure residents of the state’s three senatorial districts have access to quality higher education.

Speaking further, the governor also announced the disarticulation of junior high school from senior high school starting from the next academic session.

Earlier in his presentation, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, State Commissioner for Education, said the meeting aimed to generate a revised education policy, which would be organic and benefit from the input of the people.

She said more than 2,000 teachers had been recruited and trained in innovative technology-based teaching and learning techniques in primary and secondary schools. She said another 12,000 had applied for placement in state high schools.
