LIMA – Marcel J. Miron, at the age of 80, passed away early in the morning on August 21, 2021 at his residence.
Marcel was born on December 20, 1940 in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Maurice Miron and Annabelle (Simard) Miron, who both predeceased him. On June 5, 1970, he married Patricia (Lentz) Miron who predeceased him on July 22, 2021. Marcel was a beloved man, known to most as “Frenchy”. He first came to the United States in the early 1960s to work in an oil refinery for the FLUOR company in Rochester, New York. Shortly after, Marcel came to Lima to work at the Lima refinery through the company FLUOR. He served in both regions as a talented pipefitter and welder. He then worked at BLH – Clark Equipment Company for 10 years and finally retired from General Dynamics Land Division in 1995. He was proud to have helped build the M1 Abrams tank. He ended his career helping his son Bill start the plumbing and HVAC business of Mirons LLC.
Marcel had a deep love for his community, was a very generous man and very respected and honored by all. He was very involved with the YMCA as a member and very much enjoyed participating in their weightlifting competitions. As a scout leader, he chaperoned many troop and school trips. Marcel was a member of UAW Local 2075. He loyally attended Lima’s basketball and senior football games for over 20 years and was known as a special Spartan. He was an avid Lincoln PTA volunteer and particularly enjoyed volunteering his time to help them with their carnival. He also worked alongside his wife for the Lima Allen County Partnership Neighborhoods and the Hoover Park Neighborhood Association. Marcel loved his country, democracy, and was a big supporter of President Donald J. Trump. He enjoyed reading, cycling and visiting casinos. He enjoyed vacationing in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area, as well as camping with his family in Indian Lake earlier in his life. He really enjoyed going to the Allen County Fair every year and being a part of this community event. He was an accomplished family man and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was a big supporter of all sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Marcel was always there to defend his children and taught his boys how to become the men they would become.
Survivors include: children, Hoyt Money, Bill (Beth Seibert) Miron, Chris (Brad) Sterling, Gregg (Linda) Miron, Maurice “Moe” (Christina) Miron; brothers and sisters, Diane Miron and Michèle Miron; as well as her grandchildren, Jamie Money, Stacy (Alan) Lowery, Elizabeth (Dalton) Miron, Kristen (LeRonn) Seibert, Cassie Seibert, Kelley (Nick) Seibert, Bret (Sabrina) Whitaker, Nick Whitaker, Brittany Sterling, Trevor Sterling, Zack (Keely) Miron, Chris (Lyndsey) Whitaker, Katelyn Miron, Leah Miron, Jeremy (Sara) Pedersen and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents, Maurice and Annabelle Miron; wife, Patricia Miron; brothers and sisters, Eugène Miron, Thérèse Miron, René Miron, Ginette Miron and Henri Miron; as well as his grandson, Chad David.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Shawnee Chapel of the Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes.
Father David Ross will officiate the service.
Public visitation will take place prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., also at the Shawnee Chapel.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Allen County Chapter of the American Cancer Society in honor of Marcel’s battle with cancer.
