Obituary of Peter Robinson (1940 – 2021) – Monterey, CA

Peter John Robinson
March 11, 1940 – October 4, 2021
Carmel, California
Local educator Peter John Robinson died on October 4 after a period of rapidly declining health. His work in developing teacher education programs at Chapman College Monterey has helped many people in the area begin their teaching careers. He has also worked as Associate Dean of Education Programs at Chapman College for Northern and Central California, Regional Dean at National University of Sacramento, Director of Programs at International School in Bangkok, Thailand . He taught briefly for the Pacific Grove School District, Monterey Peninsula College, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the American Community School of Cobham, Surrey, England.
The Robinsons made their home on the Monterey Peninsula for over forty-two years, with sons David and Martin attending schools in Pacific Grove. He and his wife Eleanor recently purchased their first home in the welcoming community of Hacienda Carmel. His last days were spent in completing the living design of their home.
In addition to teaching, Robinson was a lifelong learner, pilot, sailor, artist and designer. He enjoyed learning jewelry making at Monterey Peninsula College and was preparing to do more in-depth work in this field.
The Robinsons traveled and camped as a family and later as a couple in all fifty states, across Canada, and through Baja and Yucatan in Mexico. They have traveled to thirty-five countries of the world. The preferred trips were the group RV trips along the Oregon Trail and through the Yukon to Alaska. He crewed across the Atlantic from London to the Caribbean for a course at Orange Coast College.
His family mattered to him. With his parents John and Billie Robinson showing a strong work ethic, friendliness, fun and family care and sisters Sandra, Kathy and Debbie spoiling him, he was a lucky man. For fifty-eight years, he and Eleanor shared the joy of loving and raising two wonderful sons. Her eight grandchildren brought her great joy.
Survivors include wife Eleanor, sons David of Evergreen CO and Martin of Taipei, Taiwan, very special stepdaughters Nancy and Noi, and beloved grandchildren Sierra (Jacob), Henry, Isabel Luna, Tauni (Phil), Teagan, Jasper, Myla and Cody. Also survived by an aunt Claudia Slaydon (Reed), his sisters Sandra Martin (John), Kathy Kuykendal (Robert) and Debbie Cherry (Michel) and their wonderful children and grandchildren.
Cremation by Bermudez Cremations and funerals. A Family Celebration of Life will take place in November with interment at El Carmelo Cemetery, Pacific Grove at a later date. The family would like to thank the emergency room and intensive care staff at the community hospital for their kindness and service. Memorials are suggested to any educational institution or the Carmel Valley Fire Department that provided such considerate service during the last days of Peter’s life.
