MUMBAI: On World Music Day Monday, singer-songwriter Shekhar Ravjiani of popular duo Vishal-Shekhar shared his take on remixes, which currently play a dominant role in Bollywood music.
âThere was a time when remixes also had a strong, fresh and creative approach, which made them popular with people. They were also a great way to give the younger generation a glimpse into the classics of yesteryear and expand their musical tastes to include these brilliant compositions and tracks. In the recent past, remixes have degenerated into unimaginative, hastily assembled numbers that in no way elevate the original, “Shekhar said.
“When it comes to Bollywood, remixes only work when they’re built into the script. Otherwise, it’s just a quick fix for a soundtrack that lacks creativity,” he added. .
Shekhar recently launched his music school in partnership with Global Indian International School (GIIS).
âWe are celebrating one year of GIIS Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music on June 22, and it is no coincidence that World Music Day falls just one day before our school was born. dream come true for me. I wanted to give back to the community through my music and the best way was to train new emerging talents, âhe said.
âThat’s when I joined the Global Indian International School to start our music school. Over the past year, I’ve trained students through one-on-one sessions, and they’ve shown a significant improvement in their understanding and interpretation. In fact, I have spoken with people in the music industry and I am sure that more opportunities will open up for our students to show their talent, âhe said. added the music composer.
Beyond music, Shekhar also dabbled in acting. He was most notably seen trying out a short role in the 2016 film “Neerja”.
On why he doesn’t appear onscreen more often, Shekhar smiled, âPlaying Neerja has been one of the best experiences of my life. I received love and appreciation for my performance and feel honored to have been associated with such a powerful character. and a meaningful film. Acting is something that I have always done for the sheer passion and joy of it and although I have been offered many different roles and storylines, I have yet to meet one that me. sounds loud or exciting enough to put my music aside for. “
A message for music lovers on the occasion of World Music Day?
âIn a world filled with uncertainty and anxiety, I believe music has the power to help us all feel centered, healed and loved. Our country has a great treasure trove of undiscovered musical talent waiting to be. I urge music lovers to open their minds and hearts to these emerging new musicians and singers and help them find their audiences so they can pave the way for a new era of music. This is also my dream that more and more children will pursue their love for music and I hope to do my part to make it happen, “he signed.
