I have never returns for Season 2 on July 15, and fans can’t wait to see what crazy antics Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and his friends get into. After the season one finale leaves her with two potential love interests, Devi has a decision to make.
There’s her crush Paxton (Darren Barnet), who started to develop feelings for her, giving Devi a chance to land the boy of her dreams. But now that former nemesis Ben (Jaren Lewison) has become her friend (and her new crush?), Devi will have to figure out which guy is the right one for her.
Should Devi choose to be with Ben or Paxton, or should she choose neither? Follow their stories so far and vote for what you want to see happen in Season 2 in the poll below!
The case of Paxton
Since the start of Season 1, Devi only had eyes for Paxton Hall-Yoshida, the sexiest guy in Sherman Oaks High School. After all, seeing him was the reason his legs started working again after his father died. Going into her sophomore year, all Devi wants is to have a boyfriend. After taking advice from therapist Dr Ryan (Niecy Nash) to do something that will make her feel good, on a whim, she asks Paxton if he would like to have sex with her, which is what he is. surprisingly agree.
When Devi goes to his house to do the deed, Paxton ends this plan after seeing Devi talking with his sister, Rebecca (Lily D. Moore). However, Devi is unable to tell her friends the truth – that nothing happened. Instead, she accepts the lie, stating that she and Paxton have been having sex. Paxton later apologizes, saying he thinks they’re better off as friends and that this friendship continues as Paxton takes Devi to the hospital after his coyote attack. He also asks her to participate in a group project with him, while ignoring Devi’s lie.
After the whole school hears the rumor that Devi and Paxton have been having sex, Paxton gets mad at her for the lie and shivers her back. He doesn’t speak to her again until Ben’s birthday party when she falls into a swimming pool. Paxton helps Devi by loaning her some dry clothes and walking her home, and the two end up kissing in the car.
Devi’s mother Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan) panics when Paxton returns her evening dress the next morning, insulting her in the process. As Ben and Devi kiss at the end of the season, Devi’s phone lights up with a voicemail message from Paxton, who is at her house and asks to come out.
Why could Devi choose Paxton? Her longtime feelings for him are finally reciprocated, giving her a chance to reach the boy of her dreams. If the two make it clear to each other how they each feel, they might make a relationship work.
Ben Gross and Devi have been rivals since first year as they vie for first place in their class. When Devi joins Paxton on a group project, Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) remain in partnership with Ben. While mocking Devi, her friends defend her by telling Ben that Devi and Paxton had sex, which he doesn’t believe.
To avoid being pinned down by her mother, Devi joins an overnight UN model trip, going against Ben and her pact to separate extracurricular activities to stay away. one from the other. But the two begin to get along after they manage a wine theft for the group at the hotel and they agree to form an alliance the next day.
After the school finds out about his lie, Devi blames Ben, not knowing that it was Eleanor and Fabiola who told him. She decides to break their alliance, leaving Ben confused and hurt. At home, we discover that Ben is a rather lonely kid, because his parents are often away for work and his girlfriend only uses him to improve his image. A big button ends him in Nalini’s dermatologist’s office, where he expresses his loneliness. She invites him out for dinner with the family and Ben apologizes to Devi for messing things up with Paxton, where she confesses that it was a lie.
With his parents out of town for his 16th birthday, Ben decides to throw a party. While showing Devi around, Ben misinterprets for a moment and tries to kiss her – twice. Things go wrong between them until Devi asks to stay home after finding out his mother wants to move them to India. When he asks if his father can help him free himself from his mother, Ben advises against him and asks his friends for help. Fabiola and Eleanor convince Devi to go and spread her father’s ashes with her family that evening, and Ben gets her there in time. Afterward, Devi sees that Ben has been waiting in the car to make sure she is okay. They kiss just as Paxton calls for Devi to come out.
Why could Devi choose Ben? Who doesn’t love a good story of rivals turned friends turned lovers? The two clearly care about each other, and if they put the past behind them, who knows what might happen.
The case for none
Being the strong and fiery teenager that she is, Devi might be better off without a boyfriend right now as she has bigger things to focus on. Although she arrived in time to help spread her father’s ashes, her relationship with her mother remains strained – she has sought to emancipate herself nonetheless. With a potential move to India and her future on hold, Devi may need to spend Season 2 focusing on herself, her friends, and family instead of delving into the boy drama. The last thing she would want is to give her mother more reasons to move to India.
