Stockbridge Music founder, who brings world-class live music to Stockbridge, steps down after 10 years

THE founder of a non-profit organization that brings world-class live classical music to the local community has announced he will be stepping down.

Stockbridge Music founder and director Tim Lowden will step down as music director at the much-loved Stockbridge institution after 10 years at the helm, effective April 30.

Committee member Karen Malim said, “Tim’s energetic leadership will be sorely missed. However, we are delighted – as much as relieved! – that he has agreed to continue to share his immense knowledge and wisdom as an invaluable member of the committee.

Over the past 10 years, Tim has demonstrated an astonishing talent for taking the pulse of contemporary tastes in classical music.

On March 18, Tim’s flair was evident to all, when Stockbridge Music’s Spring 2022 season opened triumphantly with a sold-out concert at St. Peter’s Church by leading international artists, Adrian Brendel, cello and Charles Owen, piano.

Their beautiful and imaginative program, from Bach and Fauré to Liszt, Kurtag and Beethoven, showcased their versatility and emotional range and kept the audience spellbound.

Sue Stafford of the band said: “It was a joy to hear music of such caliber, and the occasion marked the culmination of Tim’s illustrious journey at the helm of Stockbridge Music.

“The Stockbridge Music Committee is immensely proud of Tim’s accomplishments and, with Tim’s continued help and support, looks forward to nurturing and growing his legacy.”
