ARTRAGEOUS Kids Art Festival will bring magic to Dowdy Park

Families are invited to enjoy free interactive visual and performing arts at the 33rd Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival presented by PNC Bank, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday May 7 at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.

the mosaic steel orchestra from Hampton, Virginia will headline Artrageous, featuring dynamic steelpan entertainment that will be performed by a diverse cast of children and adults. Also effective are Dare2Care ShreddersDonna Roark’s Shadow Players with Drama Mama and Atlantic Dance, plus students from Ascension Music Academy, Mustang Outreach Program and Leslie Erickson’s School of Music.

“This year’s stage lineup for Artrageous is truly special,” said Ruth Wyand, local musician and music teacher. “We will have dance performances, theater and a wide range of live music by children and adults. Visitors won’t want to miss seeing the mosaic steel orchestraat 12:45 p.m.

Magician The Impossible Chris will be a traveling artist at Artrageous, a nod to the theme of the 2022 event, The magic of art.

Artrageous will offer free art stations where children can take part in the magical process of creation, including making magic wands, building sensory crafts, designing stained glass suncatchers, planting their own plants fats and experimentation with the culinary arts.

“We are thrilled to be part of the Artrageous Kids Art Festival 2022,” said chef Virginia Miller, owner of Modern Coastal Cookery. “We’ll teach kids fun knife skills, entry-level cooking techniques, and the art of food styling.”

Local artisans will sell their handmade work at Artrageous, including the Young Artist Village, which provides students with a venue to sell jewelry, paintings, fiber art and more.

Fork’ and Me Not, Island Snowball and Blurred Lines Bakery will be selling snacks and treats on-site throughout the day.

Additional parking for Artrageous will be available at Nags Head Elementary School and Bonnett Street Public Beach Access.

Presented by PNC Bank, the Artrageous Kids Art Festival is Dare County’s oldest children’s art program. The Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund annually awards a scholarship to one senior from each high school in Dare County.
