“Sport power becomes India power and identity in sport becomes nation identity,” Modi said in a recorded speech during the inauguration of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG)-2021 .

The Prime Minister said the joy on the faces of sportsmen, who participated in the Tokyo Olympics, was not just winning medals, but playing the games for the nation.

Modi asked students participating in KIUG-2021 not to think that they were playing for themselves, their families or universities but for the country.

“This spirit will help to win medals in the future,” Modi said in his video message.

Over 2,500 attendees, including delegates from across the country, will gather in the stadium to witness a cultural program designed to reflect the essence of Karnataka’s rich cultural tradition, while a laser show promises to leave the audience hypnotized and present the state as one in which technology has thrived. .

Through the Khelo India University Games 2021, the Government of Karnataka is also focusing on a pressing issue: environmental sustainability. Anything used in the Games outside of the field of play will be made of reusable materials; Electric vehicles will be used to transport athletes and all waste will be separated as wet and dry at source in each venue. KIUG 2021 will be a Green Games.

Around 3,879 competitors from over 200 universities will compete in 20 different disciplines, including indigenous sports like Mallakhamba and Yogasana. The Kanteerava Stadium complex will host athletics and basketball while shooting will take place at the SAI campus and hockey competitions at Cariappa Stadium. All other events will take place at the premises of the Jain Educational Institution.

More than 8,000 participants, coaches and officials taking part in KIUG 2021 have access to a one-of-a-kind mobile application for all competition-related information. The single app will contain information on accommodation, food, transportation service, emergency contacts, maps to reach various venues and important Games notifications, among other details.

The Government of Karnataka has made special arrangements for the participants of the Khelo India 2021 University Games, allowing athletes to transport their sports equipment on the Bengaluru Metro when traveling from their accommodation to their respective competition venues.

The state government has also made huge efforts to make the whole city of Bengaluru part of the Khelo India University Games 2021 through billboards at iconic locations in the city. Participants will enter the KIUG environment as soon as they exit the train and bus stations, as Khelo India University Games 2021 billboards will be waiting to welcome them.
